Light of the World School

In rural areas like Ngonine, only 8% of children attend school and Sub-Saharan Africa has the highest number of illiterate youth in the world. Ngonine’s Light of the World School is diligently building year after year to offer grades K-12. The school currently shares teaching resources with our partner school in the village of Baback and has almost outgrown the facilities in the Ngonine Church building.

Our staff exemplify the love of Christ, creating future leaders.

Student Testimony

For the 2021/2022 school year, Pathé was nonverbal and not able to develop reading, writing, or communication skills like his classmates. Although sweet and social, Pathé was in need of more individualized education. Specialized help or testing is not available for many families in Senegal, so his teacher Tening decided to help him in her personal time outside of school. He repeated kindergarten due to his lack of improvement but in the past semester, Pathé has made incredible academic strides! He has started reciting the alphabet and learning to pronounce words due to the special 1 -on-1 tutoring Tening has poured on him. Tening shares how she feels about his progress: “We really felt excited because he is starting to speak! Recently he managed to pronounced a few words like ‘madame,’ and the names of a few classmates!”
